The genus Nepeta (family Lamiaceae) comprises over 250 species that are native to Asia, Europe, and North Africa (Evans, 1996). The center of diversity for this genus lies in Southwestern Asia, particularly in Turkey and Iran, where species richness is most prominent. Out of the 33 known Nepeta species in Turkey, 17 are endemic to the region (Davis, 1982). Various Nepeta species are recognized for their medicinal properties, including antitussive, antiseptic, diaphoretic, sedative, emmenagogue, and diuretic effects, and have long been utilized in traditional folk medicine.
