Pimenta dioica (L.) Merr., commonly known as allspice and belonging to the Myrtaceae family, is native to the West Indies, Central America, and surrounding Caribbean islands. The tree produces fruits that, when dried, are used as a culinary spice. Its distinctive flavour, resembling a combination of cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg, is the reason behind its name “allspice”. Jamaica accounts for about 70% of global production, while Brazil, Mexico, and Honduras collectively supply the remaining 30%.
