Suaeda aegyptiaca is a succulent, salt-tolerant (halophytic) species belonging to the family Amaranthaceae, previously placed in Chenopodiaceae. It occurs naturally across eastern North Africa as well as regions of the Near East and western Asia.

The plant has a bluish-green (glaucous) appearance and typically grows as a low, spreading dwarf shrub or herb. Its height generally ranges from about 10 to 70 cm, though in rare cases it may reach up to 125 cm. Individual plants usually form compact bushes measuring roughly 5 to 30 cm in diameter, with exceptional specimens expanding to nearly 100 cm.
