They are distributed from Southeast Asia, tropical to subtropical Africa, Australia and the Pacific Islands. They are widely distributed throughout India,and occupy a significant position in traditional systems of medicine. Limnophila rugosa (Roth.) Merr. isused in Indian traditional medicine for the treatment of various diseases like pestilent fever, elephantiasis,diarrhea, dysentery and dyspepsia
