Thymus kotschyanus is a well-known medicinal plant traditionally used for its therapeutic benefits. Belonging to the Lamiaceae family, the Thymus genus includes numerous aromatic species distributed across various regions. It is a low-growing shrub that produces white to pale pink flowers arranged in compact inflorescences measuring 1–2 cm in length. Within Iran, it is particularly abundant in Azerbaijan, Gilan, Mazandaran, Qazvin, and Tehran provinces.

Thymus kotschyanus exhibits diverse medicinal properties, including antiseptic, antispasmodic, antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibiotic activities. Its essential oil is particularly rich in carvacrol, thymol, and ?-terpinene, compounds known for their strong antioxidant potential.
